Free Cognitive Testing For a Limited Time

Feb 12, 2021 Free Cognitive Testing For a Limited Time

Did you know that people with hearing loss are at an increased risk for developing cognitive decline and dementia? That's why we now offer cognitive testing.

At Hearing Doctors, we pride ourselves on staying up-to-date with the latest technology, research, and treatment practices. That’s why we’ve chosen to equip our offices with easy-to-use cognitive screening through Cognivue®. But what does cognitive screening have to do with your hearing loss?

Hearing Loss and Cognitive Decline - Is There a Connection?

Did you know that individuals with hearing loss are at an increased risk for developing cognitive decline and dementia?

When you live with untreated hearing loss, the parts of your brain responsible for hearing and comprehension aren’t being used to their maximum capacity. Over time they begin to lose functionality, and the longer they go with diminished use, the more functionality is lost. As the saying goes, “use it or lose it!”

Wearing hearing aids can help keep those parts of the brain active and strong, which can help maintain your memory and cognitive function.

New research finds treating hearing loss is the single most modifiable risk factor for reducing the risk of dementia.
While your risk of cognitive decline increases with the degree of hearing loss, it is important to note that even mild hearing loss can double your risk of dementia!

Advantage of Early Cognitive Screening

At Hearing Doctors, hearing and cognition go hand in hand. Offering Cognivue® screening as part of an overall hearing healthcare plan can help us detect cognitive decline in the early stages when it can be treated or slowed.

By better understanding the causes and relationships between hearing loss and cognitive decline, we can help find better solutions to both issues.

The Process

Cognitive testing is easy, painless, and takes only a few minutes. Your Cognivue® evaluation will be self-administered at a private station.

1) During your screening, a computerized system evaluates your memory, visuospatial, and executive function and also measures your reaction time and speed processing.

2) Using the data collected from your screening, we can identify areas of concern that could be indicative of a cognitive impairment.

3) For patients with established hearing loss, we may explore hearing-based solutions.

4) You will receive a report explaining your results that you can give to other physicians or healthcare professionals.

5) We are able to provide referrals to other medical specialists, such as neurologists, if needed.
