Hi, I'm Jim Cuddy. And this is Ask The Hearing Doctors. And I'm joined today by Dr. Wendy Thorne, doctor of audiology with Hearing Doctors, the Washington DC area's highest-rated audiology practice with over 1500, five-star reviews. Wendy good to see you. You too.
So, we've talked a lot about hearing and the different different types of hearing loss that people have and the different solutions, but it's not always necessarily affordable for a lot of folks and insurance can be a little tricky when it comes to to hearing aids and audiology. What are some options for folks?
So, um, unfortunately, most insurances are not super generous when it comes to hearing, hearing health coverage. We do offer different payment and financing plans, typically through CareCredit. So that's a nice way to make, you know the payment more easily, um, financially accessible for some patients.
Now, what is CareCredit?
So, CareCredit is a medical financing card. It's kind of like a credit card that you would use for only medical businesses. So they're used a lot in healthcare, hearing healthcare. They are also, you can use it at the Vet, some dentists accept it, so it's you know a nice way to kind of take that whole payment and break it up into smaller payments.
So Wendy, how is CareCredit different from say my other bank cards?
So CareCredit offers different healthcare, hearing healthcare financing options. They can be short, months we can go all the way up to two years. The nicest thing about this is there is zero interest as long as you pay your bills on time within that certain amount of time. And it's a minimum payment and that kind of thing? Exactly.
Okay, so how do I qualify for CareCredit?
So, there's a couple different ways you can do that. So you can do that in the office, when you're here we can always check to see if you qualify for CareCredit. You can also try to qualify on your own, you can just go to carecredit.com on their website and they have you know really easy you can fill out a form to see how much you qualify as far as financing. Oh so applying is the same thing then I can either come into the office here or I can just do it online and and get set for that. Yeah.
Um, when will I receive, let's say I'm using my CareCredit here today, when am I going to get that first bill?
So the first bill is typically about a month after the first payment is processed. So, if you got your first you know we processed your hearing aid on March 1st you would get your first bill April 1st. So that's pretty much like a regular credit card. Exactly. I guess it does work a lot like a regular credit card but this is specifically for especially here for hearing aid issues and that kind of thing or hearing health issues.
Can I pay a portion of the treatment cost myself and then you know use the CareCredit for the rest of it?
Yeah, so you can put any sort of money down and then finance the rest. Um, one of the nice things about being in the Washington DC area is we have a lot of federal workers so they have the flex spending account so they'll use that for a down payment and the rest they'll finance. So you know we can work with a lot of different options to make it easy for you.
So in the end there's really no reason to not get your ears checked, take care of potential hearing loss that you may have, don't be afraid. You know there's CareCredit there are ways that you can get the help that you need. Yeah, so we're always going to work with you and work with your budget to find the best solution for you.
