Best Way to Maintain Your Hearing Aid’s Performance
Mar 20, 2017
The best way to maintain your hearing aid’s performance is...
Regular hearing aid maintenance is important for optimal hearing; just like getting the oil changed in your car helps it run efficiently and prolongs its life. Only properly maintained devices will keep you hearing well for years to come!
The best way to maintain your hearing aid’s performance is to follow your audiologist’s recommendations for regular cleaning and follow-up visits with your audiologist.
Why Go to Your Follow-Up Appointments?
Most patients will be on a 3 to 6 month follow-up schedule, depending on their needs. It is important to come in for your regular checkups - or sooner if you’re having any difficulties. At these visits, your hearing aids and hearing will be assessed. If you have noticed any issues with your hearing devices or your hearing, it is important to tell your audiologist so they can resolve the problem.
The audiologist will make any necessary adjustments to your hearing aids based on your experiences and any changes in your hearing ability. Your hearing aids will be cleaned, and microphones, filters and even speakers/receivers will be replaced to keep them working well.
Are Your Hearing Aids Still Meeting Your Needs?
Testing in the office can detect whether the hearing aids are still functioning well, and providing you with the proper amplification for your hearing loss. If not, they can often be fixed right in the office, or by sending the hearing aids to the manufacturer for more complex repairs.
Do You Need New Hearing Aids?
If your audiologist determines that your hearing aids are no longer meeting the requirements for your hearing loss, or if an expensive out-of-warranty repair is the only option, new hearing devices may be recommended.
