Are Your Hearing Aids Working Properly? Are You Sure?
Jun 16, 2017
If your hearing aids stopped working you would notice immediately, but what if there were more subtle changes that prevent you from hearing your best? With gradual changes over time you may not even be aware that your sound is no longer optimal.
Sarah* is in her mid-20s, works around many people throughout the day, and enjoys spending her evenings going out with friends. Sarah was born with moderate to severe hearing loss and has learned to manage her social lifestyle with her significant hearing difficulty.
Hearing Aids Not Working Properly
Sarah had purchased her hearing aids seven years ago when she was living overseas and they recently began to malfunction. Her hearing aids were intermittent and whistling constantly. This became very stressful for Sarah; she wasn’t going out with friends as much, was struggling to hear her boss and colleagues at work, and began having anxiety and panic attacks.
Ordered New Hearing Aids
Sarah knew she needed to do something so she came to Ascent Audiology & Hearing. After we evaluated her hearing loss and answered her questions and concerns, she ordered a new set of completely-in-the-canal (CIC) hearing aids.
She Realized How Much She Had Been Missing
At her hearing aid fitting, as soon as her new hearing aids were turned on, Sarah broke down in tears. She couldn’t believe how crisp and clear the sound quality was and quickly realized how much she had been missing with her old hearing aids.
Huge Improvements
Since then, Sarah has noted a huge improvement in her work ethic and has no difficulty when going out with friends to noisy restaurants and parties.
Are You Getting The Best Sound?
It is important to be sure your hearing aids are programmed specifically for your hearing loss and lifestyle, and ensure they were working properly and providing the best sound. Hearing aids are tiny computers, so like anything electronic, they start to break down after many years.
Have Your Hearing Aids Been Checked Lately?
Be sure to have frequent check-ups with your doctor of audiology to adjust the programming on your hearing aids as your hearing changes over time, and to evaluate the health of your hearing devices to guarantee you’re hearing the best - and not missing out on social situations.
