5 Things You Probably Don’t Know About Hearing Aids

Jan 06, 2014 5 Things You Probably Don’t Know About Hearing Aids

Many people think that hearing aids are bulky, difficult to use, and make the user look and feel old. But that just isn’t true. Technological advances have made hearing aids sleek, discreet, and easier to use than ever. Find out 5 things you probably didn’t know about hearing aids that might surprise you…

Research has proven time and again that hearing loss leads to other negative conditions such as depression, anxiety and social isolation. This same research has also shown that people with impaired hearing who wear hearing aids have a much better quality of life than those people who don’t wear hearing aids.

Hearing Aids Make Life Better
Wearing hearing aids can make you a better spouse, friend, and employee. It can improve your relationships, give you a sense of control over your life, increase your earning potential, and even help you live longer.

People Avoid Hearing Aids For All The Wrong Reasons
But many people avoid hearing aids because of misconceptions they have about how hearing aids look, feel and work. So let’s dispel some of those myths right now. Here is a list of five things you need to know about hearing aids today:

  1. You can’t see them. Many hearing aids made today sit discreetly and comfortably inside your ear canal. They are invisible, provide excellent sound quality and are easy to use.
  2. They adjust automatically. New technologies include directional microphones that allow you to hear in different environments without manually adjusting your hearing aids. The devices simply adjust depending on where you are and what the sound around you is like.
  3. You don’t have to take them out in water. Almost all hearing aids today contain some kind of water-resistant design to delay or avoid the detrimental effects of moisture. Many hearing aid manufacturers have developed new protective technologies which improve upon existing water-resistant properties and add resistance to waxes, oils and other liquids.
  4. They work with your electronic devices. Most hearing aids these days are both wireless and digital, and work seamlessly with smartphones, televisions and other high-tech gadgets to make sure the volume is right for you.
  5. They are easy to use. Many new hearing aids have rechargeable batteries built in. That means you can charge them overnight and they’re ready to use again in the morning, so you don’t have to worry about fumbling around with small batteries or risk not having extra batteries on hand if you need them.

A lot of people don’t wear hearing aids because they think of them as uncomfortable to wear, unsightly to look at and difficult to use. But that simply isn’t the case. There are hearing aids out there for everybody, and anyone who thinks they may have impaired hearing should visit an experienced audiologist today to get their hearing tested, and get fitted for the hearing aids that are right for them.
